Amending your Daily Limit

Your Internet Banking Daily Limit is a way for you to prevent transacting over a set value to 3rd party accounts, on any given day (with the exclusion of some BPay® Billers*).

For the most part, you are in control of your Daily Limit. You determine what is appropriate for you and your banking needs. Note, there are times where we (the Bank) may detect activity consistent with scams and introduce a lower payment limit to some payees/payment types.

You can choose to increase the limit during a singular payment, or permanently increase it. Once you select your new limit, simply enter your Secure Code and the limit will be effective. Be aware though, scammers also know this and will often coach you to act on their instructions to increase this.

By having a high Daily Limit, you are increasing the risk of financial loss to a scam.

Signs you could be dealing with a scammer:

  • You’ve been sent some very genuine looking documents to create an investment, or to open a term deposit. Most Banks will allow you to credit new Term Deposits via BPay® or the account number directly. If you’re being asked to send your money elsewhere first, eg via another financial institution, you should speak to a friend or family member about the activity. This is a strong red flag
  • You’re being asked to keep the activity a secret from the bank or friends/family. We understand banking is a private matter, but you should get a second opinion about a situation from a friend or family as this may prevent you from financial loss
  • You are being asked to share Security Codes with a 3rd party, or perhaps share the codes and then delete the message straight away to prevent you reading it again.

Scammers can hide in plain sight, often making then tricky to spot until it's too late. They use your emotions or times when you’re distracted to lure you in. Remember, if you feel unsure about actions in your banking, call us, we’re here to help.

The Detail

* Some Billers such as utility providers are considered low risk Billers, meaning your Daily Payment Limit isn’t consumed and therefore doesn’t need to be increased. You will be prompted on screen if payments to the Biller will use your Daily Limit.
