If there are not enough joint account holders registered, you will not be able to close the joint account online. Please speak to your Relationship Manager or visit a branch  with the joint account holders required to operate the joint account. Each joint account holder must bring their debit card (if applicable) that is linked to the joint account you wish to close and one of the following documents:

  • Australian drivers licence
  • Passport
  • Photo ID issued by the Australian Government

Before you close your account

If there’s a positive or negative balance in your account, transfer funds from or to your account to ensure that the balance is $0 before you submit a request to close it. Requests to close an account with a negative balance may be declined.

How to close your account

Logon to the  Bank of Melbourne App or to Internet Banking to submit a request.

After your account is closed

If you have a debit card linked to one account only, please destroy the card after closing your account.

If your debit card is linked to multiple accounts, you can continue to use your card with the remaining accounts.
