Frequently asked questions

Are there exclusions?

All insurance policies have exclusions, and these vary depending on the type of cover you choose. For a summary of the exclusions, conditions and limits that may apply to contents insurance visit the Understand my cover section.

Does the condition of my property affect my cover?

It is important to keep on top of your home repairs to ensure little things don’t become a bigger issue down the track. For example, if a storm caused water damage to your ceiling, you may not be fully covered if the water entered because your roof was not properly maintained.

What if I run a business from home?

You can have a home office, but it’s important to tell Allianz if you plan to use any part of your home as a business premises. If you don’t, Allianz may not pay a claim, in whole or in part, under the policy to the extent permitted by law.

Can I cover my portable items such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones?

Yes. If you’d like to be covered when you’re using your laptops, tablets, mobile phones, smart watches, or other wearable devices outside your home, you can list them as portable contents under the Portable Contents cover, for an additional cost. Portable Contents does not cover cracked glass or screens when this is the only damage to the item.

Do I need to tell Allianz if I’ve installed or removed an alarm system?

Yes. Altering the security on your property may change the conditions of your home insurance, which could affect your premium. You should call Allianz as soon as you remove or stop using any security devices that were specifically required under your policy. If you don’t let them know, and you need to make a claim, your claim may be declined or reduced.

Are my items covered if they’re stored in the basement of my apartment building?

Your contents are covered if they are in a locked storage cage in the basement of the strata title apartment building of the insured address.
